espresso itself. And as the Italian word "doppio" suggests, this coffee is actually a double espresso - a drink that die-hard coffee lovers love to indulge in, especially in the morning.
When you retrace the origins of doppio coffee, you end up in sunny Italy. The birthplace ofI'm sure we can all agree that there are some mornings for which a regular dose of coffee just isn't enough. And what espresso can't handle, espresso doppio dares to.
Making espresso doppio coffee
Basically, it's the same process as making espresso - except you use twice the amount of coffee. That means you're dosing 14-20 grams of coffee for roughly 60 ml of water.
Tips for quality doppio
- If you want a really great doppio, you need to pay attention to the coarseness of the coffee grind. The best results will be achieved with a fine grind, which will ensure adequate extraction of the coffee, preserving its full flavour and aroma.
- Although you probably can't control the preparation time because it simply depends on the setting of your espresso machine, experts say that doppio coffee should take about 20-30 seconds to brew. A brisker pace will result in weak and watery coffee; if, on the other hand, the preparation takes a long time, you will probably be surprised by the excessive bitterness of the drink.
From time to time, we hear the question of whether it is possible to prepare a doppio coffee even if you don't have an espresso machine. Well, it's similar to wanting an English lawn without a lawnmower and hoping you can get by with a sickle or a scythe.
Anyway, try brewing double coffee in a moka pot or French press, nowhere does it say you won't be satisfied. But typical doppio coffee just won't do.
What type of coffee do we recommend for doppio? Of course, a lot depends on what kind of coffee you like. But don't be afraid of darker roasts and coffees with strong, bold flavors.
And above all, remember...
...when one coffee isn't enough, there's ESPRESSO DOPPIO.
