Apart from the darker shade of the new C3 PRO, the C2 and C3 mills look identical. The handle has been improved, which is foldable and makes the grinder more portable and more suitable for travel, for example.
Let's summarise what the C2 and C3 grinders have in common:
It is a compact small hand grinder with excellent workmanship. The body of the grinder is made of aluminium alloys, which makes it both durable and lightweight.
The grinder is equipped with precision steel stones with two bearings that allow high precision and constant grinding. The coarseness is easily adjusted by a rotary nut on the bottom of the grinder, clockwise for finer grinds or counter-clockwise for coarser ground coffee.
Thetextured surface ensures the grinder won't fall out of your hand and grinding will be comfortable. With a diameter of only approx. 5 cm, a height with handle of approx. 16 cm and a light weight, the Timemore grinder will meet the expectations of all travellers. The hexagonal end of the handle ensures comfortable grinding and easy application of the folding handle.
Here again, the manufacturers have managed to reduce the cost of production by using hard plastic instead of metal in some parts. Specifically, the lid, the handle holder and the internal structure that holds the grinding mechanism are all made of plastic. It should be noted that the most important parts of the grinder remain stainless steel. This makes the grinder more affordable while maintaining a superior grind:)
Thenut for adjusting the grinding coarseness is also metal here.
What is different in the new model?
The Timemore Chestnut C3 PRO mill brings a new grinding stone technology "S2C" (spike to cut), where the inner grinding stone has a new shape, namely vertical lines running across the top of the grinding stone. This technology is also used in the flagship Chestnut X grinder (but the Chestnut X has a wider range of grind coarseness settings, larger grinding stones and also a different geometry) and promises a slightly more consistent grind and also suitability for espresso ! :) The C2 grinder does grind fine enough for espresso, but that fine grind has gone on for too long and is therefore more recommended for alternative brewing methods.
